Google People Cards will replace visiting cards

In a fast-paced world, the only constant is change. The same can be said about the digital era that we exist in. With all the innovation and ideas, there is little left to imagine a world without these modern marvels.

To keep up with these trends and change along with them has been one of the tasks with entrepreneurs and individuals who wish to take their business online. Right from the turn of the decade, Google has been revolutionizing the way we work online. Search Engine Optimization has been a boon to modern marketing but what next?

Google has now launched People Cards’ in India, a streamlined and efficient way to become discoverable online. The essence is to create a virtual visiting card for individual creators, freelancers, influencers, and professionals.

The added functionality is a further attempt to cement Google’s position as one of the most productive search engines online. Apart from the obvious competitors in the SEO market, the move allows Google to directly compete with LinkedIn when it comes to targeting working professionals.

Steps to creating your own Google People Card on Google Search

The steps are as simple as learning A-B-C (Not literally but you know what we mean!)

Step 1: Log in with your Google account on your smartphone (If needing a smartphone for this was not obvious enough) and simply search for your name.

Step 2: Search for Add me to Search and tap the prompt that appears.

Step 3: Select the image from your Google account.

Step 4:
Put in your educational and professional background along with your social media profiles to make your card more accessible.

Step 5:
Review your credentials thoroughly before you confirm the details. (We do not want to make a blunder now, do we?)

And voila, within a few hours after you have confirmed your details, your People Card will be up and running and discoverable to people.

Lauren Clark, the product manager for search at Google wrote, “The new feature is aimed at helping the millions of individuals, influencers, entrepreneurs, prospective employees, self-employed people, freelancers, or anyone else out there who wants to be discovered and help the world find them. Starting today, users across India can discover the People Cards on their mobile phones, in English.”

The feature is currently only available in India as being the second most digitally present country comes with its perks. This move from Google comes weeks after the news of Google’s investment of nearly $4.5 billion in India’s leading telecom provider ‘Jio’. One of the world’s fastest-growing economies, India is a ripe market for digital platforms with over 600 million Internet users in the country in the year 2019.

This functionality will enable businesses and even individuals to reach out to a wider audience organically. Users will be given complete authority over the information to be included on the Card and can freely opt out of the feature at any point where their details will be redacted from the platform. The platform also has a security measure in place in case of the abuse of user information and data online.

You can currently access the feature via mobile devices only.
